Existing Use Registrations

Policies

The compact went into effect on September 17th, 2021. Since that time, FRWMB and the Office of the Engineer have begun to develop protocol for administering water rights on the Flathead Reservation.

We apologize for not having all our policies functional currently, but we assure you that we are working diligently toward that end.

If you registered your water, use on the Flathead Reservation within 180-days after the compact passed, your registrations are being housed by the DNRC and will be processed by the Office of the Engineer as soon as possible.

If you filed for a water right on the Flathead Reservation between the years of 1996 and the start of the compact, your registration is considered ‘suspended’ and is being housed by the DNRC. The office of the engineer will process these applications as soon as possible.

If you failed to register your existing use on the Flathead Reservation during the 180-day grace period after the Compact took effect, please contact the Office of the Engineer for for further instructions

If you need to apply for a new domestic allowance, substitute well, or redundant well. We have forms available for you to file here.
